Mentor the Next Generation of Technology Professionals

Wavemakers is currently recruiting professionals with a background in Computer Science, software development, technology, or a related field to mentor a group of University of Toronto computer science students for an upcoming Fall cohort.

Unlike a traditional mentorship program, this opportunity involves supporting students throughout the technical development of their project by sharing your expertise and providing feedback as they build.

Specifically, we are looking for individuals who have:

  • A background in Computer Science, software development, technology, or a related field

  • Experience working with coding, technical concepts, or technology-based projects

  • The ability to provide feedback on students' technical approaches and project development

  • Experience in areas such as software, engineering, product, data, AI, cybersecurity, consulting, or other technology-focused roles

You don’t need to be a software engineer. We welcome professionals who have worked in technical roles, transitioned into other areas, or have experience collaborating closely with technology teams.

    Live virtual sessions

  • Where

    All sessions take place in the Wavemakers Virtual Campus, accessible from anywhere.


    You will not be required to organize or attend in-person meetings.

  • Total Duration

    Approximately 11 weeks

    Between mentor sessions, students continue developing their projects and communicate with mentors asynchronously through Discord.

The Project

Student teams will work together to design and develop a software solution that tackles a real business challenge connected to one or more United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Projects focus on building ethical software while considering topics such as AI, data governance, ethical software design, accessibility and more. 

Throughout the program, mentors will help students strengthen their technical thinking and provide coding guidance. The project briefs include challenges such as trusted digital identity, ethical AI hiring systems, accessible digital services, cybersecurity, sustainability, and responsible technology design.

Important Commitment: This cohort requires a greater commitment than usual as mentors will provide critical technical guidance.
Attendance at all scheduled mentor sessions is required.
